Youghal Scout Group is proud to announce that Venture Scout Leader Mike Vriesema has been formally awarded his Wood Beads, the internationally recognised symbol of adult leadership in Scouting.

The Wood Badge training programme is the highest level of adult leader training within Scouting, and receiving the Wood Beads marks a significant milestone in a volunteer’s commitment to personal development, leadership, and delivering quality youth programmes.

Mike has been part of Youghal Scouts since joining as a Cub Scout in 2008, and he stepped into a leadership role in 2017. Over the years, he has worked closely with Venture Scouts (aged 15–17) to inspire and guide the next generation of leaders. From 2014 to 2019, Mike also represented youth voices at a national level as a Scouting Ireland youth representative. His commitment to outdoor adventure, skill development, and youth empowerment has made a lasting impact on the group and the wider community.

Group Leader Fergal Nolan commented:
“Mike brings energy, experience, and heart to everything he does. His Wood Beads are not just a personal achievement – they reflect the quality and spirit he brings to our entire group.”

Scouting Ireland’s Wood Badge training involves a combination of theory and practical experience, focused on leadership, programme delivery, safeguarding, and personal reflection. The award is recognised across the global scouting movement and connects leaders with a tradition that dates back to the very beginnings of scouting.

Youghal Scouts would like to congratulate Mike on this well-deserved honour and thank him for his continued service and enthusiasm.
